World Communion Sunday
In 1933, the world was in the throes of a Great Depression. Rising hunger would hasten the march towards war in Europe. Even during that, though, one Presbyterian pastor asked himself "what could bring people together?" He asked... "what if Christians all over the world decided to celebrate communion on the same Sunday, signifying that no matter where we are, we are one at the table of Christ?" And he did just that. Starting in 1933, this first Sunday of October has been set aside as a day for all Christians everywhere to join in making this a World Communion Sunday. Join us as we celebrate our connection, celebrate Jesus' presence, and give thanks.
Crop Walk
This Sunday,
October 5th
12:30pm-registration
1pm-Start of Walk
No one in this world should be hungry. That's why the CROP Hunger Walk is more than just a gathering of people in a place. We're part of a movement, taking steps and raising funds together to provide meals for those in our own community who need them - and supporting programs that create greater food security in communities all around the world.
Please join us to walk a 3-mile route on the Prairie Path and Great Western Trail starting and ending at First Church of Lombard (220 S. Main Street, Lombard). There is a sign-up sheet in the back of the sanctuary.
By walking together, we raise much needed funds for Church World Service programs addressing basic needs internationally and for the following local food pantries like Outreach House.
Strategic Planning/Church Visioning Day-Sun., Oct. 26th, 11am
Last year, we created a three-year Vision for FUMC. This vision gave us the start of our path forward. Now, we need you to help us improve that vision.
We especially want those who were there last fall AND those who could not make it.
Join us for this two-hour planning session right after church where we’ll celebrate the accomplishment of this past year and continue to look towards our strategic directions for the future. It will be right after church in the chapel. Lunch included! We can also provide childcare (please let us know in advance by emailing office@firstumclombard.org).
If you want to review what we did last year, we have included all the documents from that workshop: The Strategic Directors, Underlying Contradictions, and the Three-Year Vision.
If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact Pat or Tom Price by emailing Layleaders1@firstumclombard.org
