The Widow's Might
This is the second-to-last Sunday we will be in the Gospel of Luke. We've been on this journey for almost a full year now, reading through the Gospel of Luke and picking up on its themes of repentance and inclusion. Luke, for instance, is adamant that those called "enemy" can actually join God's movement (called the Kingdom of God). It's a Kingdom that cares for the most vulnerable, especially the hungry, widows, orphans, and immigrants.
This week, as we finish up our reading, we hear about a certain widow who gave a gift of what she had. And we'll read through how Jesus really feels about the focal point of the people's worship life, the Temple. What would Jesus think of our own buildings and gathering places? Where would we find God today?
Come this Sunday as we explore one widow's gift (two mites) and the strength she offers for all who feel like the world is tumbling down.
